Data Dashboard home | Intake | Detention | Community Supervision | Committed Treatment | Equity | Recidivism

Welcome to the DJS Data Dashboard! This tool has been designed for sharing data at multiple points in the juvenile justice system. It includes youth involved in the juvenile justice system or detained in a DJS facility with a case in adult criminal court. The pages are overviewed below. You can also read some helpful hints on how to use the dashboards.

DJS Data Dashboard - Intake

Intake

The data presented in this section represent juvenile complaints referred to DJS Intake by citizens or law enforcement; it also includes technical violations of juvenile probation and cases that were transferred to juvenile court from adult court jurisdiction.

This section also shows the decisions made by DJS Intake staff, including which cases were diverted from prosecution (either resolved at Intake or diverted to Pre-Court Supervision) and which were referred to the State’s Attorney (“formaled”). For more information, please see the Intake section of the DJS Data Resource Guide.

DJS Data Dashboard - Detention

Detention

The data in this section present the average daily population of youth detained in DJS detention facilities. These include youth awaiting a court hearing (“Pre-D”), youth who have been committed and are awaiting placement in a treatment program (“Pending Placement”), and youth detained pending an adult court hearing that could result in transfer to juvenile court (“Adult Detention”). For more information, please see the Intake section of the DJS Data Resource Guide.

DJS Data Dashboard - Community Supervision

Community Supervision

This page shows the average daily population of youth supervised in the community by DJS case managers. Probation and Community Aftercare supervision is court-ordered, while Pre-Court cases are diverted from court and supervised by DJS. Community Detention youth who are supervised or "on the box" as an alternative to detention are not included here in this initial version of the dashboard. For more information, please see the Intake section of the DJS Data Resource Guide.

DJS Data Dashboard - Committed

Committed Treatment

The data presented on this page represent the average daily population of youth committed by the juvenile court to out-of-home treatment programs. These include DJS-operated facilities and other contracted residential programs in Maryland and out of state. For more information, please see the Committed Treatment section of the DJS Data Resource Guide.

DJS Data Dashboard - Equity

Equity

Data shown here represent the proportion of DJS Intake complaints, pre-disposition detention admission, and committed admissions that are girls and that are youth of color. For more information, please see the DJS Data Resource Guide.

DJS Data Dashboard - Recidivism

Recidivism

This page contains the one-year recidivism rates of youth under court-ordered probation supervision and youth released from committed placement. Recidivism is reported across three outcomes: a new arrest, a new juvenile adjudication or adult conviction, and a new juvenile commitment or adult incarceration. For more information, please see the Recidivism section of the DJS Data Resource Guide.

Helpful hints on using Qlik dashboards:

  • How to see the data labels better
Some data labels may not be presented if the amounts are small. In a chart, you can hover your mouse over the bar or point you’d like to see, and the value will show. You can also hover over the top right corner of the chart and select the “Full Screen” icon with two arrows to maximize the size of the item.
  • Looking at subsets of the data
Filters, in the yellow boxes, allow you to select subsets of the data. The blue box at top left on each dashboard page shows what filters are selected. The subtitles for each chart also show your selected filters, as do the titles for certain boxed “KPI” measures in the dashboard. The master filters of race, gender, and county apply to all datasets in the dashboards when selected. Some dashboards have other filters as well that apply only to those datasets.
  • Numbers are suppressed (not displayed) when there are too few cases.
To protect the identities of DJS youth, DJS suppresses data from being reported when there are fewer than 5 intake cases in a category. The footnote at the bottom of the chart indicates what data suppression is happening. Note that if there are 0 cases, the category will simply not show up and will not be shown as suppressed.
