Maryland Family Resources

​Department of Juvenile Services provides information to the families of youth who are in our care and custody within the community as well as within facilities. However, there are other Maryland entities that also provide information of value to Maryland families. These links take you to websites outside of Department of Juvenile Services’ domain but are provided for informational purposes:
  • MARYLAND STATE’S ATTORNEY - The State’s Attorney for each Maryland county and Baltimore City files petitions against juveniles within their jurisdiction (each Maryland county or Baltimore City). Please check the State’s Attorney website within your jurisdiction for more information.

  • MARYLAND PUBLIC DEFENDER​ - The Maryland Office of the Public Defender provides representation for indigent adult and juvenile defendants in Maryland. Their website also provides information helpful for families of youth. Following is a link to their Baltimore City page but provides information valuable to all Maryland families about the role of the Public Defender.

  • MARYLAND COURTS - If the Maryland States Attorney files charges against a youth under the age of 18, in a petition alleging that the youth is delinquent, the case is heard differently than a case against an adult. The Maryland Courts website provides information about the juvenile court process.

  • PEOPLE’S LAW LIBRARY - The People’s Law Library is a legal information and self-help website for individuals and is maintained by the Maryland State Law Library. It provides information on Maryland and federal law affecting Marylanders and their families in a number of topics.
