The Western Maryland Children's Center (WMCC) opened in September 2003. Western Maryland Children's Center is a secure detention facility for youth waiting to go to court or be placed in a treatment program. It has the capacity to serve male youth primarily from the Western Region, which includes Allegany, Garrett, Frederick, and Washington Counties.
Western Maryland Children's Center provides dietary, medical, educational and counseling services as well as space for recreation. In addition to receiving services, youth placed at Western Maryland Children's Center attend school in the facility year round, five days a week for six hours a day.
