Maryland's Veterans Services Specialist Program
Did You Serve In The Military? Do You Have A Family Member Who Served In The Military? Learn More About The Veterans Services Specialist Program (VSS Program)
All Maryland State Government Departments and Agencies have a Veterans Services Specialist (VSS) or “liaison” who can provide general information to State employees who have served in the military or who have family members who have served in the military with information on veteran-related resources. They can also answer general questions citizens may have about these resources. The Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families (DVMF) Communications, Outreach, and Advocacy Program works alongside liaisons to share information and improve veteran services coordination. Please contact your agency’s VSS with questions or inquiries. We are here to support our veteran community!

What veteran programs/benefits are offered by this Department/Agency?
While the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services does not provide direct services to veterans, you may contact either the designated VSS or the DVMF Communications, Outreach, and Advocacy Program if you have questions related to veteran benefits or services offered by other Departments/Agencies.
If you have general questions or cannot locate an agency contact, please reach out to the MDVMF Communications, Outreach, and Advocacy Program. The DVMF Communications, Outreach, and Advocacy Program is charged with informing veterans and family members on services, benefits, and assistance available to them from the State and Federal governments. The Communications, Outreach, and Advocacy Program is capable of discussing VA benefits and how to connect with a variety of veteran-related resources.
How is the Maryland State Government serving service members, veterans, and their families?
In 2017, the Veterans Services Specialist Program (VSS Program) was established to improve the coordination of services for service members, veterans, and families in Maryland. Across government, veteran liaisons are available to answer state employee or constituent questions and provide general information on veteran-related resources.

What is the DJS Veteran Program?
This program was launched on Veterans Day, 2024, to honor and support our veteran employees and their families. The program will consist of quarterly informational sessions available virtually to our veterans, and their families are welcome. This program supports Governor Moore’s Families Serve Act (SB 478/HB 604) and covers the “5 key pillars: employment, food and housing insecurity, education, health and wellness, and volunteer service.”
We would love to hear from you! If you’d like to be a guest speaker or need support, please do not hesitate to contact Tiffani Johnson at
